What to Do in the Case of a Terror Attack

Only a few hours ago, a motorcycle bombing attack occurred in Thailand killing 3 people and injuring 22 others. Sadly the Foreign Office has now warned tourists that there is a high terror threat amid the ongoing insurgency. The latest attack in Yala is just another horrific event that can be added to the list of explosions in Bangkok in April and March of 2017 and attack on the tourist destination back in 2016.

'Since 2004, there have been almost daily attacks in Thailands deep south' says the Foreign Office, so here is what you do should you ever find yourself in the middle of a terrorist attack when holidaying in Thailand. Run, hide and tell. Follow these three simple steps to have the best chance of escaping the events unharmed.

Run

• Escape if you can to an area you know you will be safe
• Take a second to consider the safest options
• Is there a safe route? RUN if not HIDE somewhere you won't be seen
• RUN with other people
• Leave your belongings behind

Hide

• If the case is you can't RUN, then HIDE
• Find cover from gunfire which would include behind heavy reinforced walls
• Remember bullets go through glass, bricks, wood and metal. Just because you are out of view does not mean you are safe.
• Try not to get trapped
• Be quiet, put your phone on silent and turn off the vibrate.

Tell

• To call the police in Thailand either call 191. You can also call the tourist police on 1155
• Help the police know where the attackers are by telling them the location you either seen or heard the attacker.
• Give the police some information about casualties, type of injuries being suffered, if any hostages have been taken etc.
• If you can describe what the attacker looked like. From features to clothing, this will help the police be able to identify the target on arrival.
• Tell other people near you to stop them running into the line of fire.

Ping Pong Shows

A ping pong show in Thailand is a form of entertainment that usually happens whilst in strips clubs. Shows tend to consist of Thai ladies holding or blowing objects out of their vaginas. Ping Pong balls are the most iconic objects used but as the shows have evolved more and more crazy shows are being created. Thailand has become famous around the world for such shows and that has lead to the shows being very popular with tourists.

One of the most popular parts of Thailand for ping pong shows is the Patpong Market in Silom. The red light district here is the place to go for a little bit of everything from ladyboys to LGBT bars. The razor show will truly amaze you with the Thai lady pulling razorblades attached to string out of her privates. She will then use the razors to cut out men on paper. A paper creation souvenir you won't forget.

Avoid Scams

Sadly ping pong shows attract scam artists. There is an exit scam where the owner and workers will get very aggressive with you claiming you either have to pay for every show, you have to pay to tip the ladies or you agreed to pay in British sterling instead of THB. It can be a scary experience so here is how to avoid the scam.

• Be bold and tell them that you know the scam and are not willing to pay the ridiculous add-ons that you are being charged for.
• Before entering you can agree on the terms of the price repeatedly. Make sure you are paying in baht and not sterling. Even try to get a written agreement
• Pay the owner the entry fee and have a tab behind the bar in advance.
• Go into ping-pong bars in big groups. Having a large guy will always help you have the upper hand to their aggressive approach.
• Take only the minimum amount of money. You will never receive change so take small notes and then you can also argue you can't afford the extra charges that weren't agreed.
